Danielle and Mark are happily married now ( just wait until you see their wedding!) but I wanted to go ahead and post their engagement shoot because A) they are a cute couple and B) they are so amazing and fun and have vibrant personalities! Danielle actually called me last year a few weeks after getting engaged on July 4th weekend. We spoke for awhile on the phone and I thought we had a great connection.  And then I spoke to them over skype and thought, "I am really liking this couple!"  However, it wasn't until I met the couple face to face that I realized how much I adore them. They are stinking cute and the stories they told about pulling pranks just had me wiping tears from my eyes!  What I remembered distinctly was the way Mark lit up when he was sitting next to Danielle and telling me their engagement story. And what I remembered from Danielle was the way she smiled when she said," He is the first man I am with that I can be myself completely." I think at that point I must have let out a happy sigh. Now as I am looking at their photographs I am letting out another happy sigh. In fact, a million happy sighs.

Phary and Kuntha are so stinking cute you want to bottle them up and take them everywhere. I don't know what it is but when I'm with them I have even greater faith in love. Maybe it's the giggles, the kisses on the nose, and the overall goofiness that I find so endearing and real.
During a break in the session, I asked Kuntha what he loves about Phary. His reply?  "I love that she keeps me grounded. I found myself when I met her. I love that she is so connected to her family and that because of her I am more connected with my own."

Phary and Kuntha introduced me to wine in Temecula and we promised that when I get back from Cambodia, we'll take another trip to do a proper wine tasting. One in which I don't embarrass anyone by asking where the wine comes from.

See more in the slideshow.

Dear Matty,

It's February already. The days have gone by and yet the hours seem to linger slowly.  Torturing me cause I miss you.  I'm adapting wonderfully here but it doesn't feel the same without you. Your absence is so missed. I don't hear the sound of your video games or your (very) colorful words when you lose. I don't feel your arms wrap around me when we fall asleep or your breathe upon my cheek in the morning.  Is missing you suppose to hurt this badly?

Everyday I note in my head the places I want to take you (Kep), the cafes that you'll absolutely love (The Shop), and the fun things we can enjoy together (fish massage!).  You would like it here.  Aside from the heat and mosquitoes, the experience has been amazing.  I feel expose and vulnerable but also strong and empowered.  It's as though the experience has forced me to strip myself completely and I'm slowly rebuilding. Layer by layer. Or perhaps it's more along the lines of the caterpillar turning into a butterfly.  I don't know.  I really don't have the answers.

What I do know is that love is the only thing that keeps me going.  We've already witnessed the power of love in the couples we have met and the weddings we have shot together.  Love is such a big deal.  It sustains us, it awakens us, it brings us hope.  I constantly need this reminder.  In December, I went to Siem Reap and shoot a dream wedding, number 52 on my 101 list. It took me six hours on the bus to get there.  I pressed my hands and faced against the window the entire way.  I was that excited.  The woman sitting next to me offered me a taste of fried crickets.  I ate one.  She ate a bag full.  It was interesting.  I met Mary and Hugh.  They are amazing people, Matty. You'd have loved them. You'd have loved the wedding.  We woke up at 4am the day before and watched the sun rise over Angkor Wat.  I still don't have words to describe it.  It was more than I could imagined.  Complete darkness, then this realization that I was at the place that my ancestors built, that Cambodia was once a great empire and then light appearing, and slowly a wash of color.  I was too stunned to take a picture.  I just wanted to soak in the moment.

But really...you would have loved Mary and Hugh. They have hearts of pure gold. I promise to write to you about their wedding in my next letter.  In the meantime stay warm, count your blessings, and know that there's someone on the other side of the world thinking of you.

xoxo
Me

This year, one of the most awesome things I've come to realized is that in the pursuit of dreams you find far more than you'd ever expected. Craig and Kelsey met on a life changing mission trip to South Africa. Both went in pursuit of helping rebuild a community.  Both returned to the States love bitten and smitten by one another.  It was one of those things that just can't be predicted. Kelsey and Craig have an adventurous spirit, and an even deeper love and passion for one another.

Chatti and I were blessed to do a sunrise e-session with them and WOW, was it magical!  I am now convinced that shooting in early morning light is the way to go. Congratulations to Kelsey and Craig!  See you in June!

September 16, 2010

I know I say this all the time, but it's true: we really do have the best clients in the world!

Dora and Dan hail from Orange County, California gaving us the perfect excuse to visit my home state.  Their engagement session took place in Laguna Beach and Cove Beach.  The California sunset was the perfect backdrop for this cool couple.  Dora and Dan came perfectly prepared to rock their session.  Dora looked amazing and had such a vibrant personality that I immediately gravitated towards her.  Dan, being very much in love, was so cool and relaxed.  They made the perfect pair and are such amazing people.  I had so much fun playing in the water with them and climbing up the lifeguard tower (always wanted to do that!).

Matt and I also had a ton of fun at their wedding (posting a later time...soon my friends, soon!). Dora and Dan, congratulations on finding the perfect partner to live out your dreams with!

They met at Bible study. She was drawn to him but having already experience a heartbreak she felt it necessary to be single for awhile. Still that boy, the one with the glasses and enchanting smile, made her heart skip a beat. When Liz met Jeremy she was excited but understandably scared. She was not ready for another heartbreak and so they became friends first. They went swing dancing and laughed together. She made sure she sat next to him at Bible study while also making sure he didn't catch her staring at him the entire time. Liz was quite determined to hide her crush on Jeremy. He was that special and the disappointment would be too great for her heart to mend.

The only person who knew her true feelings towards Jeremy was God. She asked God for some clarity. "God, give me until August, and if nothing comes out of this I will give up. I won't even be his friend."  It was not until a Christian Arts Conference that things seem to come together. Liz asked Jeremy to attend the conference with her and there, they were mistaken for a married couple. Neither seemed to mind the mistake. And that became their beginning.

A few months after officially dating, Jeremy was cleaning his room and found an old homework assignment. He had written down 10 qualities he wanted in his future wife. As he carefully read through the list, it dawned on him that Liz possessed all of those traits and much more. It was then that he knew he would marry her...

Liz and Jeremy are so fun to be around. They are one of those couple who are just so in sync with each other. Jeremy has a way of making Liz laugh that brings out her inner child. They are both easy-going and full of life. Liz is a writer and Jeremy is a graphic designer/found art master. They are two amazing creative people! Congratulations Liz and Jeremy.  We cannot wait to celebrate in two weeks.

Happy Monday my friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and found a few minutes to relax and take a deep breathe. Matt and I spent most of the weekend getting photos orders together, designing engagement books, and writing out a game plan for our busy wedding season. Whew! We were busy but still had fun!

One of the things we really want to integrate into our business are online slideshows. Lauren and Chris engagement session just screamed for more attention! It was such a powerful shoot that they needed to be showcased as much as possible. Can you tell that I loooooooooooove them?! I love Lauren's laugh and smile. She is such a natural beauty! And I just adore the way Chris looks at Lauren with such intensity. Wowzers!
