They met at Bible study. She was drawn to him but having already experience a heartbreak, she felt it necessary to be single for awhile. Still, that boy, the one with the glasses and enchanting smile, made her heart skip a beat. When Liz met Jeremy she was part excited but understandably scared. She was not ready for another heartbreak and so they became friends first. They went swing dancing and laughed together. She made sure she sat next to him at Bible study while also making sure he didn't catch her staring at him the entire time. Liz was quite determined to hide her crush on Jeremy. He was that special and the disappointment would be too great for her heart to mend.

The only person who knew her true feelings towards Jeremy was God. She asked God for some clarity. "God, give me until August, and if nothing comes out of this I will give up. I won't even be his friend."  It was not until a Christian Arts Conference that things seem to come together. Liz asked Jeremy to attend the conference with her and there, they were mistaken for a married couple. Neither seemed to mind the mistake. And that became their beginning.

A few months after officially dating, Jeremy was cleaning his room and found an old homework. He had written down 10 qualities he wanted in his future wife. As he carefully read through the list, it dawned on him that Liz possessed all of those traits and much more. It was then that he knew he would marry her...

Liz and Jeremy are so fun to be around. They are one of those couple who are just so in sync with each other. Jeremy has a way of making Liz laugh that brings out her inner child. They are both easy-going and full of life. Liz is a writer and Jeremy is a graphic designer/found art master. They are two amazing creative people! Congratulations Liz and Jeremy.  We cannot wait to celebrate in two weeks.

Happy Monday my friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and found at least a few minutes to relax and take a deep breathe. Matt and I spent most of the weekend getting photos orders together, designing engagement books, and writing out a game plan for our busy wedding season. Whew! We were busy but still had fun!

One of the things we really want to integrate into our business are online slideshows. Lauren and Chris engagement session just screamed for more attention! It was such a powerful shoot that they needed to be showcased as much as possible. Can you tell that I loooooooooooove them?! I love Lauren's laugh and smile. She is such a natural beauty! And I just adore the way Chris looks at Lauren with such intensity. Wowzers!

Sometimes, on my day "off" and Matt has gone to work I sit and miss him.  On days that are especially sunny I miss him more. Sunny days means hiking, riding bikes, or running along side each other. Matt is by far my favorite work out partner.  I'm not sure why because if I may speak the truth, he is actually kinda annoying when he works out. He is rather chatty when we're out running and sometimes if we're at the gym he forgets that we're suppose to exercise and he'll start to watch the t.v. instead. No matter, I still love working out with him.

I used to be a runner. When I lived in California I ran on the beach and when I came to Colorado I ran up mountain trails. I ran all the time and I could run circles around Matt. I made sure he knew that I was better and faster than him. Oh how I made sure!  Every time we went for a run together, I mumbled under my breathe and rolled my eyes because Matt was so unbearably slow. Instead of running with him, I'd run ahead of him. I left the poor boy behind. However, somehow in the midst of my bragging, I ate some humble pie. Matt actually surpassed me in my running. He actually became good and I, in turn, now run at a snail pace. I know, for a fact, that Matt can leave me in a trail of dust. I know that if he really wants to he can run there and back but he never leaves my side. He runs at my pace and never complains or roll his eyes. He's my cheerleader, my best bud, my awesome workout partner...

I didn't mean to write something sappy, but it is what it is.

FACT: Matt and I fight over who will edit each session that comes our way. We used to edit together but Matt claims that I am bossy so now we have to divide the work. For this particular shoot, we both wanted to do it so badly because it was that good! Matt won by calling dibs on it before I even knew what hit me. He cheated and we'll leave it to that.

FACT: He never calls dibs on blogging. Matt is a man of little, little words and although, English is his native (and only) language he lacks the capability to string words together (Har, har. how do you like them apples, Matt?!).

FACT: Lauren and Chris are such a talented, charismatic duo. Lauren is a photographer and Chris rocks out in a band called Meniskus. The moment we met them we got a hip, fun, and modern vibe from them. We knew shooting them would be a lot of fun! On the day of the shoot, they came willing to do anything!  Lauren and Chris have an endless amount of infectious joy.  They are such an adorable couple that I couldn't help but smile throughout the entire shoot. They are such naturals too! Matt and I kept declaring out loud, "You two must have practiced at home!" They were so in sync with one another that it created magic. I suppose that when two people are in that much love,  the story is that much easier to document.

FACT: We have the best clients in the world! I am so happy that our clients get our vision and are more than willing to go along with our direction! Lauren and Chris, thank you for being you! And Lauren, you can stop checking your email now. ; )

August 18, 2010

The first time they kissed in front of me I instinctively cringed. I didn't mean to honest, but all little sisters can vouch for me that this is a normal reaction to when a guy kisses your older sister. On the lips no less! Did I hear all the little sisters say, "EWWW" ?!

And that was how I was introduced to Eli. He later bought me a big bag of M&Ms as a gesture of friendship. I, of course, was still weary of him. I gave him the stank eye when he handed it to me. I wanted the peanut butter filled kind and he bought the peanut kind. Hmm...this could be a problem. I spent the entire night watching him from the corner of my eye. I was trying to sum up this guy who had unabashedly kissed my sister in front of me.  Quite frankly, it wasn't a matter of not liking him but hunny it'll take more than a bag of not-the-ones-I'd-even-asked-for-M&Ms to steal my sister away from me!

There I said it. I haven't admitted it out loud to anyone, but let the truth be known today that I, Chatti, was seething with jealousy. I couldn't shake that gnawing feeling that he meant something to my big sis. That this Eli dude was more than just a silly crush. And that, of course, meant only one thing: CRAP, I'd have to share her! The months following the awkward boyfriend-little sister meeting I was subjected to phone calls from Lakana that centered around him. I responded like any little sister would do: I rolled my eyes. It was very clear that she likes him. Frankly, I preferred it when Lakana wasn't seeing anyone. Without the companionship of a boy, my sister actually needed me! I was afraid that this boy, this Eli kid, was going to ruin it all for us.  Somewhere in this brain of mine, I was afraid that she would start to love him more than me. It was irrational thinking.

Oh Internet, I tried to hate him, I did. I tried to find fault in everything that he did but when I saw how happy my sister was I couldn't help but start to like him. A little. Okay, I like him a lot! There I said it Eli and you're not going to get anymore out of me!

Matt and I did a quick 20 minutes shoot with them when we were out in California. Enjoy!

Summer is coming to an end and I dread it. When I lived in California, Autumn was my favorite month but here in Colorado where there is this dreadful wet thing called snow, summer has my name written all over it. I bask in summer. Summer is all things good; hiking,  swimming, and best of all, family. As you may know, Matt and I took a week long trip to California a few weeks ago. I was sick all week but even that didn't put a damper on the trip. I was quite happy to be in the company of people who look like me.

The people in my family are super amazing, sometimes difficult, but still out of this world amazing! My older brother and his family just made the big move from Minnesota to California, so I am beginning to feel left out. Now they are all in the same place, and I remain land-locked. Poor me, yes?

Anyway, when Matt and I were out in Cali, my nephew, Quincy, asked for some senior photos. When he first asked, I wasn't sure that I heard it right. "Senior photos for...?" And before I could even finish the sentence it dawned on me that he meant senior photos as in SENIOR PHOTOS. When did the little munchin turned 18?! How did the little boy I once knew turned into a young adult? Like, overnight?!

Quincy is a quiet charmer. He isn't loud, he doesn't call attention to himself. He'd rather sit in a corner, music in ears staring out a window. Speak to him though and he will charm his way into your heart. He is a wise soul and while I am the aunt, the adult, I find Quincy has a lot to teach me. He is a dreamer, a curious explorer, a person filled with soul. He reminds me to stay true to who am I, to stand my ground in what I believe in, and to laugh (even if it's very quietly).

I have kept them waiting. These photos have been edited and placed in our blog que for some time. So it's not that I am a lazy blogger but that, at times, I find the responsibility of telling someone else's love story a bit overwhelming. Frankly, I am scared to get it wrong, scared that the following written words will not do justice for Keeli and Jake.

I will start by letting you know this, though: Keeli and Jake are so lovable. You see them together and you just want to let out a cry of joy. This is a pure form of love. So pure that Matt and I were drawn to their story from the very beginning. Their story started out simple. They met through a realtor friend, they spoke on the phone, they went on their first date. But five months after dating, Keeli was rushed to the hospital after suffering multiple seizures, and a blood clot to the brain. She had suffered a stroke and was later induced into a coma. The doctors told Keeli's parents and Jake that she was not going to make it but Keeli is a fighter ( I believe she can move a mountain if need be). She came out of it and to her surprise Jake was still there. As a matter of fact, he never left. Even through all of Keeli's mood swings and tough recovery Jake was devoted and remained within arm's reach. That's when Keeli knew that Jake was the man she was going to marry. This is unconditional love.

Keeli and Jake were so wonderful at their engagement shoot. They even brought their two dogs, Magnus and Jenna, for part of the shoot. Matt and I drove down to Colorado Springs and had tons of fun with this couple. It truly was a double date!  Keeli and Jake, we can't wait for the second round this October! Cheers to you and your love!

July 22, 2010

I always love taking the opportunity to really learn new techniques in my photography. Lately, I've been really getting into lighting. This is something i've always wanted to try and finally took the plunge.

Inspired by some awesome photographers like Jeff Newsom and R.J. Kern, I introduce.... My work in progress, Enjoy! :)

orb1-web.jpg

Chatti's side note: When I told Matt that he should post one of his lighting pictures on the blog much to my surprise, he hesitated. He even said to me, "I think I'll wait until I get to the point I want to get." In which I replied, "You need to show them your efforts first. People applaud progress you know." I know that we all want to show the world that we have it under control, that we know what we're doing, that we're the best at whatever it is we're suppose to be the best at. But the wonderful thing about being human is that there is progression; always a forward movement. We're students so we'll continue to absorb new materials and learn. You have to start somewhere, right?

Every night when Matt gets home, I know that I'll be the subject of one of his lighting project. I hate being his subject, but I do it anyway because I know that he won't quit until he has it right. So for now, the neighbors will keep thinking that we have a rave going on in our home.
; )
